Blackjack cheater gets five years in prison
February 23, 2008 - Lin Ho

A man caught cheating while playing blackjack at a casino has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Steven Stotts, 57, of Mason City, was arrested in November 2006 after video surveillance at the Diamond Jo Worth Casino showed him "capping'' and "pinching'' bets while playing blackjack at the Northwood casino.
The video shows Stotts adding more chips when odds were favored or when the outcome of the game was already determined, or trying to take away chips before a dealer collects, court records show.
"If you get a busy table, with a lot of players, it does get difficult for a dealer to watch all the hands,'' said Larry Mullen, a special agent in charge with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. "That's when we turn to the surveillance cameras.''
Stotts was sentenced in Worth County District Court.
